happy fifth birthday, parks james
dear parks,
a few days ago, on the fifteenth of january, you turned five – and you lit up and shined all day long. i love you. so very much. watching you become a big boy has been my greatest joy. i don’t want you to grow up, but the older you get, the better i get to know you. and you are so wonderful.
you love holidays and your cousins and playing outside and donuts and your stuffed animals and jeeps and apples and your little brother. our mornings as a family in bed all together- looking at the moon/planets/stars on our app or cuddling and watching a movie are some of my favorites. you love to snuggle. and i love our bond + we are kindreds.
you helped me plan your (very small) celebration this year (i am all about special, heartfelt, and intimate ones) and you were the cutest telling me your ideas + wishes … for food, you wanted to have: apples, yogurt, lollipops, pizza for the kids and tacos for the adults, granola bars, and bubble water (la croix). and you helped me set-up the little corner… there were flowers and jeeps and a banner with some of your favorite things. my favorite memory was singing by the piano while your five candles flickered. i always want to remember the way you looked at me while we sang to you in our sunroom, underneath the market lights. you were glowing and i could see your warm heart through your chestnut eyes.
last week we spent many hours at a park. we ran and explored and played. i held back tears as i watched you; so proud of who you have become. to sit under the pine trees and look up at all there is- all the possibility, all the color. we sit together, fully there, and i dream for you.
you are-
still the someone who drives to be to the ground-to renew and trust and seek after my maker.
still my sweetheart;
my firstborn son.
always remember-
-i love you-
to the moon and stars
moon and stars.
love you forever,
-just the way you are-
your mom
all year he has talked about wanting a house for his animals/play figurines and for his mo mo’s (dinos) and to stay in a hotel. with covid, a big party or a hotel stay were both out for the time being, but we had the best day celebrating at home. and he loves his new house (a second-hand find! one of my favorites ever.) and at the end of the day, he said, “momma- this was the best day ever!!” i just love how kids take in and appreciate the smallest things in life.

to be the one he calls mom, for him to be my son, it’s why i believe – and why i will always believe…
he is why i am meant to be.
we love you, our precious boy.
your tender heart makes me so proud and i can’t believe we get to intimately share our lives every single day.
he is everything. he is all. and i am so humbled to be on this journey that God has mapped out just for us. i may not be the best at it all the time, but my gosh, do i try.
