bowood farms
… one of my favorite parts of my recent visit to st. louis –bowood farms
a garden, nursery, gift store, and brunch spot
A vision blossoms into reality. The roots of Bowood Farms’ location in the Central West End in St. Louis was first planted in the fields of Clarksville, Missouri in 1989. After nearly two decades of growing a strong reputation as a wholesale perennial grower, Bowood Farms decided to expand its reach into the St. Louis retail market. Strong family ties to the Central West End led to the discovery of a decaying automotive repair/plastics/cabinet manufacturing warehouse dating back to the 1920’s, in which the visionaries at Bowood Farms saw the makings of a natural greenhouse-style facility. Excited to join in the revitalization efforts taking place in the city of St. Louis, they began the rehab of the building in January 2005 and filled it with plants in April 2006.
Inspired by the concept of uniting house and garden, the new retail venture also allowed for Bowood Farms to expand its offerings to include an enticing selection of home and garden gifts that are inspired by nature and bring the outdoors in. It all comes full circle with the addition of Café Osage, a breakfast and lunch spot where you can sit outside among the plants as you dine on organic, house-made selections. No matter what brings you to the big chartreuse doors, you will definitely enjoy the experience!
