giving thanks: decor + outfit + cards + recipes for thanksgiving day
shopping in chicago with jillian |
some years we would head to chicago to see my dad’s sister, my aunt judy, and her family. my sister and i are extremely close to her and her daughter, our cousin jenny, who is married and has two amazing kids, who are now 18 and 14. our trips to illinois for thanksgiving were also so special. so many traditions there as well… many are the same (we keep a lot of it in the family- a mexican fiesta, trot, boutiques, and elf occur in chicago, too} but a few other traditions include: heading into the city the day after thanksgiving for a day of shopping on michigan ave, eating deep dish pizza, enjoying the city’s christmas decor, a carriage ride, crafting, cozy movie nights around my aunt’s fireplace in her rustic basement, and going around the table, holding hands, and saying what we are most thankful for… i will never forget when jillian was about five and said when it was her turn, “i would like to thank jesus …because i am beautiful” in her adorable little voice. our hearts all melted. my dad usually starts this up after praying at my parent’s house as well- i love this tradition. it usually brings tears to my eyes.

Ooooh, I got so many warm fuzzies reading about your Thanksgiving traditions. Can't wait to be with my family next week! One of our new traditions is having dinner at Palomino's in downtown Cincinnati the day after Thanksgiving and watching the lighting of the Christmas tree on Fountain Square! Can't wait to have Max with us for it this year!
