my classroom

i am currently in my sixth year teaching middle school…
8th grade language arts.
here is an inside look into my classroom:

i decided to put a painted bookcase- of my favorite color- red- on top of my desk to help with organization and teaching resources…

i try to teach optimism at all times: “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” — Helen Keller

“tell me and I forget. teach me and i remember. involve me and i learn.” — benjamin franklin

bringing my love for the buckeye state to north carolina… go bucks!

such a cute gift – given to my dear colleague, ms. wade:

my students can ‘earn’ small prizes with tickets that they gain from doing the right thing/going above and beyond/helping another student/working hard:
“don’t limit yourself. many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. you can go as far as your mind lets you. what you believe, you can achieve.” — mary kay ash

“it is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”
— albert einstein

*every friday, my students have ‘daybooks’ due – they are essentially journal entries and all  most of them love enjoy creating different prompts– every now and then– ms. wolf is mentioned- some complaining about work/projects… which is ok… and then some love too:
“treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them become what they are capable of becoming.” — goethe

i’ve learned that organization is key.

my desk:

plot pyramid made with ribbon (on the left) and then i decided to hang a cheap curtain to hide storage:

“the purpose of life is not to be happy – but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all.” – leo rosten

the students can use 3 ‘reward tickets’ to sit in this chair for the entire block:

leo- the wildcat- was a gift from the class of 2011

school and classroom news goes on the ‘wildcat news’ bulletin board above
adore owls

the name tag on my door was produced by an amazing student last year – so cute.

the yellow chair is famous for receiving student work/assignments- as is the red lamp

the student who wrote the poem below is SO fantastic!
how sweet is this:

student projects that were turned in last friday 3.8.13:

late september-thanksgiving there are pumpkin lights adorning my desk: love.
“you have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” – anonymous
