my word of the year

here’s to wishing and hoping that our annual bird families build nests all over the outside of our home
it’s always such a gentle, springtime honor.

// beannacht, a blessing for the new year
“on the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
and when your eyes
freeze behind you
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue,
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight
when the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
may the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
and so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.”
over the past few years, i have taken a step back and have gradually simplified life, with small baby steps; a continuous journey. and i have chased slow. i have reevaluated my priorities and how i want to live my life… how i want to look back and see my life when i am older.
in clover (adj) ;
in a condition of prosperity; living well; happy and contented
and as a result, i have found myself to be more rooted, more confident, and more able to find the little joys in each day. and now… i want to bloom, i want to discover, and i want to make the very most of the important things in life.
in 2019, i plan to look at myself as an artist
as i take on this year’s word |
becoming
i have prayed about this for a few weeks and the same words kept coming … discover and ‘to become.’ through prayer and a lot of growth and self-discovery – thanks to our church and the enneagram series (if you follow me on instagram, you know my love for the enneagram is growing daily.) if you do not follow sarajane case and her new series, enneagramandcoffee – do it. she is so wonderful. and inspiring.
i hope to share how i hope to plan and live out this year in details soon
but here are my overall intentions //
becoming and loving who i was created to be
becoming closer to God and my faith
becoming a healthier version of myself (i started this last august/plan to continue…)
becoming more confident during my interactions with others; remembering that i matter
becoming a morning person (again) this was my last journey (here). and a yogi (again)
becoming a bigger veggie eater
becoming gentler about my insecurities
becoming better at recycling, reusing, and being environmentally cautious (goodbye, water bottles and paper towels and paper napkins, etc.)
becoming more play and more grace – for my boys.
becoming a better friend, sister, daughter, mother, wife . loving others is an honor and a privilege for me (if you are familiar with the enneagram, #2/helper is my second highest one) and i want to be my very best for my loved ones
becoming more of a library, podcast, bubble bath girl (we plan to get rid of the television in our room soon… and possibly the downstairs one? but one step at a time) … i have heard so many positive things from others- and i am inspired.
becoming someone who acts with purpose, clarity, and courage
becoming content and knowing that it is fine to stop and re-start and begin again (or not)
becoming okay with saying ‘no’ – with no justification
becoming in tune with all of the tiny, perfect things around us
becoming more minimal
becoming a ‘let’s go grab a coffee or a cocktail” with friends
becoming a light for those who are struggling – through forgiveness and compassion
becoming my true self.
what about you?
…what is your heart leading you to focus on this year…
if you picked a word for 2019, i would love to hear it below

What a great word and focus for 2019! I am still considering a few different words but I haven't landed on one. I love becoming.
