optimizing your shower time
last night i enjoyed my first relaxing evening in our new bathtub {love}- it was so glorious. the scent of a volcano candle burning- norah jones and she & him radio playing- a crisp glass of white wine, january’s book club selection, a succulent, and k.hall design’s wonderful, peony bath salts. i savored every single second.
however, on a daily basis, this obviously doesn’t happen… which got me thinking… how can i savor and optimize my daily shower time.
here are five of the things i came up with:
one: dim/turn off the lights & light a candle- the ambiance will create a more relaxing experience
two: discover new organic -all natural- cleansers that also smell amazing.
i hope to explore and share what i find soon! any suggestions?
three: moisturize after every shower- esp. during the winter months. i have always wanted to do this on a consistent basis and just never have… i plan to put the lotion in a specific spot right outside our shower to that i can get into a better routine. also, something i learned a few years ago regarding dry/flaky skin- use lukewarm water versus hot
{if your skin turns red- the water is too hot}
four: bring in a cup of coffee, tea, a glass of wine, or a can of craft beer in with you- i love to do this – why not? it’s amazing. just make sure it’s not in the way of the water and you are golden…
you will thank me later.
a great pandora station playing is also a must.
my favorites include: kate walsh, blackhawk, ingrid michealson, the avett brothers, norah jones, the honey trees, and she & him radio.
five: hang eucalyptus up in your shower {this is on my to-do list for this weekend- heading to the farmer’s market and ikea in the morning} you can also buy eucalyptus wherever you buy flowers. the health benefits are incredible, along with the wonderful aroma around you while you shower.
by hanging the plant in your shower, the steam will release oils that promote: anti-stress, mental clarity, it’s a great mood enhancer, and lastly, benefits respiratory health.
do you have any other suggestions?
…i would love hear…
hope you have a fabulous weekend

I am so bad about moisturizing! My sister does it every day. I was really good about it while I was pregnant but now I'm back to only doing it occasionally. It definitely helps to have the moisturizer near the shower or where you will be getting dressed. These days, my showers are typically a race against Max's nap or temperament (if he's awake), so I rarely get to savor the shower. I will try to use some of your tips when I have a "babysitter" (aka daddy) during my showers!

hi love!!! i totally get it. this is what i always remember most from babysitting over night- trying to shower with a baby. let's do this – moisturize every single day. hope you had the BEST time on your cruise- so happy for you!!! xo

You've inspired me to take a bath tonight. Trader Joes also has Eucalyptus right now! Hanging in the shower is AMAZING. It smells so, so good. Also…a good hair or face mask and a LUSH bath melt (insanely moisturizing) are a part of my bathtime ritual!

Love these tips. I don't take baths enough – I think I've only used our tub once!! This sounds divine though – I need to try it again soon doing these things!!

I love to take baths, but don't do it often enough. I keep a jar of Coconut oil in my bathroom during the winter and slather it on after every shower. It helps keep the dry skin away!
