september goals + a kindness challenge
i hope your day is going well and happy holiday weekend to you. today is day two of the blogtember challenge, thanks to the adorable bailey jean. the prompt today is to share my september goals with you. i have a few personal | family goals; however, my main goal this month is to accomplish my own ‘kindness challenge.’ i recently took a personality test because i have not taken one since i moved to charlotte nine years ago. i actually wasn’t that surprised but i went from being slightly more introverted back then to being 65% extroverted and 35% introverted now. honestly, i know that i have changed and grown so much; as most people do from their twenties to their thirties. i was so much more anxious, shy, and dependent on other people when i moved here (i moved over five hundred miles away, only knowing two people- and not well at all- one is still a very dear friend) but i am so grateful for all of this. my twenties included traveling and living abroad, a lot of partying (no regrets over here- i loved being young and free and am thankful for all of those fun memories!), heartbreak (the worst, right? don’t miss that. yet i am convinced that it makes you a better person.), living on my own in a new city, yoga and zen entered my life, i think i gradually became a better teacher, and most of all, i became more confident in myself. during the personality test i took last night, this question stood out to me the most… ‘do you want your kids to be kinder over smarter when they are older.’ for me, that was a huge “strongly agree.” and that’s the truth. kindness over having strong intellectual skills is way more important to me, even as an educator. my main goal in life is to instill this in my children through my actions so i came up with a monthly challenge for myself; acts of kindness i hope to accomplish as often as possible.
my kindness challenge
+ show patience with someone
+ see a situation through another person’s eyes
+ forgive someone who has wronged me
+ give ten minutes to really listen to someone
+ offer a genuine compliment to a stranger
+ focus on what you have in common with everyone you meet
+ write a ‘thank you’ card ‘just because’
+ donate to a charity
+ make a kit for a homeless person (small toiletries and snacks)
+ make sure everyone feels included
+ be kinder to myself
+ see everybody you talk to through God’s eyes
my september goals:
+ incorporate coconut oil into my life more
+ continue to master skills on my nikon camera
+ plan out a mom and baby daily schedule
+ meal plan (has anyone tried blue apron? thoughts?)
+ yoga + working out at least four times a week
+ morning prayer devotionals
+ read at least one book
+ save more money
+ plan a few dates with mr. monaco

I love the idea of a kindness challenge too – I think kindness gets overlooked a lot these days but little acts of kindness really can change a persons life!

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to pop on over here – although I receive your posts in my inbox and I read everything, haha. I first have to say that I adore your new blog theme! Just so you – love it. And I think it’s awesome you took a personality test to see how you’ve changed over time. The kindness challenge is a wonderful idea and the goals you’ve listed are a fabulous start to living more authentically in how one deals with the people around them. Spreading kindness is always a good choice and it’s wonderful that Parks will have that example set before him through you. <3

hi love~ no worries at all! thank you for stopping in and for the nice comment. it means so much to me. i was so nervous for the change, but so far, i really like it a lot as well. the couple in munich that i worked with were both so personable, professional, patient and just wonderful. i feel blessed to have found them. greyson is the cutest and i wish we lived closer. so glad his special day in the church was memorable. it looked lovely. wishing you a great weekend and thank you again for the love. xo

I LOVE the new look, girl! So beautiful! And you are my inspiration. I love reading your goals, both for kindness and in general. Also, we were gifted 2 weeks of Blue Apron from my brother-in-law for Christmas. We liked it because it gave us some new recipes to try (I tried beets for the first time!); however, we didn't have enough to feed Max with the two-person plan (plus he's picky anyway so I still had to make him something else). Also, we only got 3 meals per week which means we still had to grocery shop/meal plan for half the week anyway. It's worth a try, though! You're an adventurous eater so I think you'll enjoy it. Plus the recipes are pretty easy to follow. Have a lovely weekend, friend!

awe, thank you so much!! means so much to me. i love it, too. the couple i worked with … they were just the absolute best. love. you inspire me as well, sweet girl. thanks for the advice. i really want to learn how to cook. i am not good at all. was hoping this would help me! tim is good at it but i want to help out more and would love to create some meals. especially for my kids as they grow up. meal planning has been a goal for SO LONG. and yes, i eat pretty much anything and love food WAY too much. i love flavors and spice. does blue apron offer a lot of those two things?

YES! You get to choose from 6 meal choices each week, so you have some say in what gets sent to you. Also, the recipe cards have step-by-step photos to accompany the recipe so you can consult to make sure you're doing it right! I'm sure you're a better cook than you realize. I'm not a "whip something up off the top of my head" gal but I still know my way around the kitchen…as long as I have a recipe to guide me! I really enjoy meal planning as long as I remember to do it and give myself enough time to do it (feeling rushed makes me not like it so much). Just start earmarking recipes that sound good to you and jump in feet first!
